A West Virginia Gem: Salt Cave and Spa

I really wasn’t expecting such a memorable and full spa. As soon as I pulled in the parking area, I was being drawn in every direction to something new and exciting to explore. Beautiful sunflowers towering overhead, a little “hobbit house” carved into the hillside, and an unassuming large building with a natural mural painted on its size.

I had scheduled a spa package, so I headed to the main building following the signs along the path. I stepped inside and was greeted immediately by the front desk clerk. I didn’t know ahead of time, but the package included a smoothie of my choice. I love smoothies and fix them at home often, so this was a nice surprise!  I chose the Purple Rain. I’m a life long Prince fan and the combination of mango, pineapple, bananas, and blueberry was sounding so refreshing on a warm day.

I was taken back for honestly one of the best massages I have ever had in my life. I have travelled all over the United States and had massages and spa days all over, and this place hands down is one of the best! Since COVID restrictions were in place, they weren’t doing the facial portion of the spa package, but offered a reflexology foot and calf rub. I’m not always a fan of facials, but do a lot of walking, hiking, and running when the weather permits, so I enjoyed my calves and foot being targeted.

I added LED light therapy. It was nice, but I have a short attention span and it is just really hard for me to lay still with nothing appearing to go on for 15 minutes or more. I wouldn’t include it the next time, but I have heard so many great things about Light Therapy, and would definitely do it more in the future, however, I wouldn’t add it on to a lengthy spa package, but that’s just me!

The halo therapy in the salt cave was soooo much more than I expected it to be. Again, I’m not a huge fan of sitting still and doing nothing, but the time I spent in the Salt Cave (around 45 minutes) was so relaxing and just zipped by. I would definitely recommend adding the Salt Cave after a massage or spa package. I think having my body so relaxed helped me enjoy the time in the cave, and also to get into a deeper meditative state.
